Following our successful Drum and Guitar Days last year, we're giving the Bass Players their own event to celebrate this great instrument and all those that dwell down in the lower frequencies!
We have a stellar lineup of bass players leading a range workshops and masterclasses. There is the chance to connect with fellow bassists, ask questions and enjoy a gig with some of the London scene's top musicians.
Laurence Cottle is a bass legend, composer, and producer, known for his versatility, virtuosity, and innovative approach to music. We're fortunate to have him presenting a masterclass and bringing his band (including Ian Thomas - drums and Mornington Lockett -sax) along to perform a set to closeout the event.
Yolanda Charles has had an amazing career as a session musician working with a huge range of artists including Paul Weller, Marcella Detroit, Pops Mohammed, Alison Moyet, Desert Eagle Discs, Gabrielle, Robbie Williams, BB King, Eric Clapton, Roger Daltrey, Van Morrison, Mick Jagger, and recording for Michael Jackson with Jermaine Jackson producing.
Mike Nichols has performed in a wide variety of musical settings from theatre and orchestras to pop bands and electronica. He is currently the MD for Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp being responsible for live production, fixing the band, directing rehearsals and live shows. Over the last few years the band have played major festivals in the UK including Glastonbury and the Isle of Wight.
Tickets for our Bass Day includes 2 workshops with Yolanda Charles and Mike Nichols at Sutton Music Centre (4.30pm & 5.30pm) and then a masterclass with Laurence Cottle at the Sound Lounge (6.45pm). Then there is a 'Bass Hang' where you can connect with other bassists and chat over a drink or two. Finally there is a set from the Laurence Cottle band featuring Ian Thomas and Mornington Lockett. The event finishes at 9.15pm.
