The Gift of Music!
Learning an instrument is the gift that keeps giving! In these uncertain times, we’ve heard from many people about how music is providing great comfort, enjoyment and focus in their lives.
When I was a child I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to learn the drums, trumpet and piano. Ok, I was noisy, but I had a focus and learning music shaped what I wanted to do in life. As well as getting to meet and play with some amazing people, being a musician has allowed me to travel around the world. Whilst touring with various theatre shows I’ve had the chance to explore and appreciate many of the great cities around the country. Working on a cruise ship when I was 21 meant I could learn many things including how to understand a Geordie! I’d never met anyone from Newcastle before then!!
Now that gigs and concerts have been curtailed I’m very grateful for the opportunities I’ve had but feel for those who are starting out as professional musicians. Respect is due to the new ways they are finding to create, learn and spread the gift of music.
I recently caught up with one of Sutton Music’s ex pupils, JR Graham, who has just started at Tileyard Studios and we wish him all the best as he continues his journey into the music industry.
